Whether you are caring for someone who's sick or struggling to cook in an ill-equipped vacation house, the idea of cooking a tasty and healthful family meal seems daunting. Just take a deep breath and pick up this cookbook. While it is tempting instead to pick up the phone and order takeout, that's not a healthy way to eat—and quite expensive. Instead, try culinary expert and TV cooking personality Christy Rost's fresh, easy-to-make, stress-relieving recipes you can make even if you don't have a stove to cook on.

Christy developed the 100+ fast, easy, healthy recipes for Where's My Spatula? as she coped with trying to prepare healthy meals for her family during a major restoration of her historic house in Colorado. Though it was almost impossible to cook, she still fervently believes that dinner is the time to slow down and sit down with your meal and your family—no matter what else is happening in your life.

Where's My Spatula? is so easy, it's like having a good friend drop by with a home-cooked meal for you and your family. So sit down, take a deep breath, and restore your body and your spirit with good, healthy food.

After the Q&A had run its course though, and with the next presentation postponed by the lack of power, the audience was left with nothing to do but wait it out. Up stepped cookbook author Christy Rost to fill the void. Rost, who had demoed her "Fifteen-minute Pork Chops with Cabernet Reduction" earlier, introduced herself to those who may have missed her hunger-inducing presentation and revealed that she also sings Italian arias. What? Yes. Rost broke into song to a rapt audience, both in front and backstage. But after one song (it happened so quickly we didn't get a chance to ask her the title) and despite heart-felt, enthusiastic applause and cries for more, she slipped away. It was something, indeed.

You can have fast and healthy meals when your kitchen or your life is in a mess. Christy Rost proved it to her parents, Jinx and Robert Schnoes, and friends here that you could have both. The recipes she made took minutes to prepare and were gourmet. She stopped in Freeport to visit her parents while on the way to Chicago to promote her new cookbook, "Where's My Spatula?” The book was written in Colorado while she and her husband, Randy, worked on remodeling a mountain retreat in Breckenridge. Even though her kitchen was under construction, she learned to simplify her cooking without sacrificing quality or taste. In minutes, she put a nutritious meal on the table instead of running out to a fast food spot.
