Get to Know JRR Tolkien: The Man Who Created Middle Earth

Sunday, September 22nd is not only known as The Hobbit Day, but JRR Tolkien Week as well. Created by the American Tolkien Society in 1978, both celebrations are dedicated to honoring the life and legacy of author JRR Tolkien, his books, and his beloved characters.

John Ronald Reuel (JRR) Tolkien was born in 1892 in Bloemfontein, South Africa, he was an English writer and philologist. His most notable, and widely recognized, work includes The Lord of the Rings series, The Hobbit, The Silmarillion, and others.

While much has been documented about Tolkien’s life as an author, Pen & Sword’s The Real JRR Tolkien: The Man Who Created Middle Earth offers fans a deeper look into the early years of his life and so on. The book features an analysis of Tolkien’s “influences, friendships, triumphs and tragedies that forged the worlds of The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings.”
